MajorDuties

As an Health Scientist you will: Serve as a recognized agency authority or consultant for health programs, and conducts scientific research to develop a national system (or) systems to monitor public health capacity in the country of assignment. Identify and analyzes public health issues and their impact on scientific operations that are critical to the public health community. Utilize expertise in the fields of epidemiology, survey research and public health surveillance, demography, statistics, and program development and evaluation. Lead scientists and program consultants in various aspects of the study or survey design process, and other study support duties including analyzing and reporting of data and data dissemination to audiences. Provides technical advice to global agencies and to various other health-related organizations about measuring and evaluating public health capacity and performance in country. Prepares scientific articles and technical reports for publication in national and international public health journals. Makes presentations to other scientific staff, federal, health program managers; and other health officials and health-related organizations.

Requirements

US Citizenship is required. Background Investigation may be required. One-year probationary period may be required. Overseas Assignments: Overseas assignments are for two years. The assignment may be extended based on the needs of the agency. Upon completion of the overseas assignment, CDC employees on temporary promotion/reassignment will be placed in accordance with CDC placement procedures. Subsequent employment for all others for CDC positions must be through the appropriate competitive process or special employment program hiring authorities. -Potential selectees will remain in a different location, whether domestic or international, from the specific advertised position location. This is to complete the required training and security and/or medical clearances. -This position will be entitled to comparability pay once deployed to overseas location. -This position is eligible for special pay allowances (e.g., post differential, housing, relocation, etc.) -Immunizations are required and will be administered by the CDC before relocating overseas. -To work overseas for the CDC, the selectee will need to obtain security and medical clearances before being cleared to report to the overseas duty station. Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position to include experience directing health science studies, surveys, and/or projects related to public health programs. Documenting Experience: In accordance with Office of Personnel Management policy, federal employees are assumed to have gained experience by performing duties and responsibilities appropriate for their official series and grade level as described in their position description. Experience that would not normally be part of the employee's position is creditable, however, when documented by satisfactory evidence, such as a signed memorandum from the employee's supervisor or an SF-50 or SF-52 documenting an official detail or other official assignment. The documentation must indicate whether the duties were performed full time or, if part time, the percentage of times the other duties were performed. It is expected that this documentation is included in the employee's official personnel record. In order to receive credit for experience in your resume that is not within the official series and grade level of your official position, you must provide a copy of the appropriate documentation of such experience as indicated above.
